OERK — RIYADH / KING KHALED INTL AIRPORT – New DVOR/DME Installation Project

1 Introduction

The purpose of this AIP Supplement is to notify aircraft operators regarding the new installation of the DVOR/DME system at King Khaled Intl Airport (KKIA) and to provide information on the impact of the installation activities on the air navigation during flying from/to OERK.

2 Timeframe for the installation activities

The period of the installation activities of the KKIA DVOR/DME system serving OERK is up to (14) Fourteen months. These activities are divided as follows

Phase 1 Civil Work and site preparation + 3 Month - The RWY 33L/15R will be temporarily closed when the crane needs to be used during the installation activities and work in progress. 
- During the temporary closure of the RWY 33L/15R, a crane with a maximum height of 25 meters might be used, and the crane’s boom might be extended.
- RWY 33L/15R may be unavailable for ARR and DEP during the crane activities.
- Construction works close to runway strip 33L/15R. (Persons and vehicles must comply with all instructions, and clearance distances must be observed during RWY in operation and use)
All phases  would be announced by NOTAM
Phase 2 New system’s hardware installation + 2Months
Phase 3 New system set up and alignment + 1Months
Phase 4 Test commissioning for the new system +0.5Month
Phase 5 Decommission of old DVOR/TACAN and New
DVOR/DME Publication and Operation
+7.5Month - AIP will be updated with the new DVOR/DME and Instrument Flight Procedures (IFPs).
- The DVOR/DME system will be published and integrated into operation.
- New Instrument Flight Procedures (IFPs) are designed and published.

4 Instrument Flight Procedures and Approaches available from/to OERK

All Instrument Procedures (IFPs and IAPs) will be available during the work in progress for the new DVOR/DME installation.

The aircraft operators must consult all valid NOTAMs prior to conducting any flight from/to OERK in the case of any RWY 33L/15R closure
 

5 Activation of the AIP supplement

Trigger NOTAM will be issued in accordance with AIRAC procedure

6 Replacement or cancellation of the AIP SUP

Any significant change in the current information would be notified by a replacement AIP SUP. 

This AIP Supplement will remain effective till further notice, and NOTAM will be issued to announce the cancellation of this AIP SUP.
